In Rememberance of Allen Bullard
WILLIAM ALLEN
BULLARD, 79, passed away Sunday, June 4, 2006, in Little
Rock, Ark. He was born April 2, 1927, in Little Rock, to William Toler Bullard
and Allene Frith Bullard.
Allen graduated from Little Rock High School in 1944. He attended LSU and
then entered the Navy in May 1945. There he served as a
chaplain’s assistant in World War II and in the
Korean conflict. In 1950, Allen graduated from the University of Arkansas,
Fayetteville, with a B.S. degree in Business Administration. During college, he
made lifelong friends through his Kappa Sigma fraternity.
In the early
1950s, Allen started his own company as a manufacturer’s representative in the
heating and air conditioning industry, a career that spanned a period of 42
years. He loved his job and made many friends and associates along the way, all
of whom respected and admired him for his integrity, kindness and excellent
service to his customers.
During adult life and after retirement, Allen and his wife traveled
extensively throughout the United States and much of the world. Allen was also a
very a faithful and loving member of First United Methodist Church, serving as
Chairman of the Board of Stewards and as a loyal and beloved member of the
Chancel Choir. During retirement, Allen enjoyed tutoring children at STEP, a
church-based ministry, and at Forest Park Elementary School. He was also an
accomplished clarinetist and enjoyed playing and singing at the piano for his
family and friends.
Allen touched the lives of all persons he came into contact with through his
genuine interest in them and his wonderful, disarming sense of humor. He will
long be remembered by hundreds of children (and their parents) for the phone
calls he made as “Santa” calling on Christmas Eve night.
Survivors include his wife of 53 years, Betty
Ann; their children, Katherine Melhorn and husband Johnson, Eleanor Pella and
husband Peter, Will Bullard and wife Ellen, Jeff Bullard and wife Cynthia,
Phillip Bullard and wife Brandi; and two sisters, Margaret Baker and husband
Rodney, and Marie Chandler and husband Joel. Allen also leaves four
grandchildren, Henry and Helen Melhorn, Sadie and Hannah Bullard; and many
nephews and nieces.
